Healthy Buildings conferences since 1988
The Healthy Buildings conference series, initiated in Stockholm in 1988, has become a vital platform connecting scientific research and practical applications in indoor air quality and building health.
The International Society for Indoor Air Quality (ISIAQ) was established in 1992 to continue this mission, organizing the Healthy Buildings conferences biennially, alternating with the globally recognized Indoor Air conference series.
Healthy Buildings conferences uniquely blend science with practical applications, drawing a diverse audience, including researchers, practitioners, manufacturers, hygienists, facility managers, real estate owners, and building product suppliers.
The conferences also address region-specific issues, enhancing their relevance.
The significance of the Iceland location lies in its unique climate and environmental conditions, which present distinct challenges and opportunities for indoor air quality and building sustainability. Iceland's commitment to sustainability and its innovative approaches to building technology make it an ideal setting for discussing and advancing these critical issues, fostering collaboration between scientists, industry professionals, and policymakers.
Healthy Buildings 2025 Iceland, Reykjavík
In the era of climate change we need to provide buildings that do not harm the planet nor the health of occupants. We need to focus on both the planet and the people. We must combine different multidisciplinary scientific knowledge to be able to lower the carbon footprint of buildings and make them more sustainable. At the same time, we have to make sure that indoor spaces are as safe as possible for occupants. The state and design of buildings are important factors to create the indoor air quality. Join us in Reykjavík to explore the critical intersection of climate resilience, building sustainability, and occupant well-being at our upcoming conference.
This event is a vital platform for professionals to address the challenges climate change poses to the building sector, including how we can adapt and innovate for enhanced sustainability and health within built environments. Our sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including the latest advancements in sustainable building materials, energy-efficient designs, and innovative ventilation systems that prioritize human health. You'll gain insights into how multidisciplinary approaches—integrating architecture, engineering, and health sciences—can lead to more resilient and livable structures.By participating, you'll engage with global experts, collaborate on problem-solving strategies, and leave equipped with practical tools and knowledge to implement in your projects.
This conference is not just about discussion—it's about taking decisive action to ensure buildings contribute positively to both our planet's health and our own.Together, let's shape a future where our buildings are safe, sustainable, and conducive to well-being. Join us to be a part of this essential dialogue and drive change within the industry.

The conference will cover several key themes focused on healthy and sustainable buildings. It will delve into health in buildings, emphasizing medicine, public health, hospital and school design, infection transmission, and moisture-related issues.
Architecture and design topics will include the carbon footprint of building materials, the roles of architects and practitioners, energy efficiency, climate change, and building certifications such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL, and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Climate challenges will address indoor air quality, building physics, energy use, insulation, ventilation, and well-being in both cold and warm climates.
Additionally, the conference will explore how to translate scientific findings into actionable policies and regulations for stakeholders and policymakers.
We welcome you
We anticipate a dynamic exchange of knowledge and ideas that will foster interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration. Join us in Reykjavik for an inspiring and enriching experience at Healthy Buildings Europe 2025.
